By 1850 he was living on Jones Fork, in DeKalb Co., TN. Jeremiah moved to Jones Fork area of DeKalb Co., TN before 1850.  He is listed on the 1850 census of DeKalb Co., TN in District 10 as number 868-Mullikin, Jeremiah C., age 26, Farmer, and born in Tennessee.  In his household was Wilmouth, age 24, born TN; Mary A., age 5, born in TN; and Allen G., age 1, born in TN. He was living next door to his brother John Jefferson Mullican.  Apparently Jeremiah and John Jefferson Mullican owned a farm together as on 1850 DeKalb Co., TN Agricultural Schedue they are listed together.   They owned 15 acres improved land, 71 acres of unimproved land, and value of their land was $150.00.  The value of their farming implements was $8.  They owned one horse, two milk cows, 2 oxen, 3 other cattle, 3 sheep, 42 swine, and value of their livestock was $172.00.  Their farm produce was 750 bushels of corn, 15 busels oats, 150 pounds tobacco, 10 pounds of wool, one bushel peas and beans, 50 pounds butter, 30 pounds hemp water rotted, 95 pounds beeswax & honey, and $35.00 was value of their home made manufacture. Mullican & wife Amanda Mullican and Kizeymore Mullican sold to J.(ohn) J.(efferson) Mullican for $80.00 their one half in land in District 10 DeKalb Co., TN that had belonged to Jeremiah Mullican decd. 55. JOHN JEFFERSON7 MULLICAN, (John Greeenberry6, William5, William4, William3, James2, JamesA-1), b 8 Sep 1826 Warren Co., TN d d 5 Jan 1878 DeKalb Co., TN m 14 Sep 1847 DeKalb Co., TN Mary Joyce Taylor b 2 Aug 1832 Smith Co., TN d 1 Nov 1888 DeKalb Co., TN dau of Jacob P Taylor and Polly _______. Prior to 1850 John and his brother, Jeremiah, moved to Jones Fork area of DeKalb Co., TN. They apparently owned a 86 acre farm together in District 10. In 1850 they had 15 acres improved land, 71 acres unimproved land with a value of $150. They had one horse; two milk cows; two oxen; three other cattle; three sheep; 42 hogs; and value of livestock was $122. Their farm produce was 750 bushels of corn; 15 bushels oats; 150 pounds of tobacco; 10 pounds of wool; one bushel of peas and beans; 50 pounds of butter; 30 pounds of water rotted hemp; and 95 pounds of beeswax and honey. On 12 Feb 1853 John purchased for $175.00 74 acres of land on Jones Fork in District 10 of DeKalb Co., TN from Hezekiah Allen. Then on 6 Apr 1858 he purchased an adjoining tract of land from Court that had belonged to the heirs of C. W. Kerby. This land totalled 75 acres and was on the west side of his other land and bordered on Indian Creek. In 1860 he owned 40 acres improved land and 109 acres of unimproved land with a value of $1000. He owned one horse; two milk cows; two oxen; seven sheep; 22 hogs; and value of his livestock was $300. He produced 69 bushels of wheat; 500 bushels of corn; 20 pounds of wool; 18 bushels of irish potatoes; 20 bushels sweet potatoes; 100 pounds of butter; and 14 gallons of molasses. John built a log cabin with an attic for sleeping quarters and separate log kitchen. Cooking and heating was by a fireplace. Later John added a dogtrot hallway and large frame room for church meetings. It is thought that the Holmes Creek Primitive Baptist Church meetings were held in this room. John and Mary grew everything they ate, and wheat and corn would have been taken to the mill for flour and corn meal. Two springs north of the house would have been used for drinking water and to keep milk and butter cool. John Jefferson Mullican made his will on 3 February 1869:

I John Jefferson Mullican do make and publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void all other wills by me at any time made.
